Dear Reader,
CIPA Heritage Documentation is a dynamic international organization that has twin responsibilities: keeping up with technology and ensuring its usefulness for cultural heritage conservation, education and dissemination. This dual role is exhibited in our parent organizations - ICOMOS - International Council of Monuments and Sites and ISPRS - International Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. Science and Culture.
We accomplish these two sometimes conflicting goals in a variety of ways, through:
Encouraging and promoting the development of principles and good practices for recording, documentation and information management of cultural heritage;
Leading and participating in international training programs for conservation and informatics professionals, students and site personnel;
Advising government bodies, regional authorities, non-profit groups and institutions on tools, technology and methods for using technology;
Sponsoring an international network of professionals in both the fields of technology and cultural heritage for scientific research but also applied practical experience;
Providing a platform with our bi-annual congress for the exchange of ideas, best practices as well as scientific research papers.
It is this last point that we wish to celebrate our 45th anniversary in Strasburg, France at our XXIV International Symposium held between the 2nd and 6th of September 2013.
This forum provides a platform not only for double blind peer reviewed scientific papers, as in years past, but also an exchange of practical experience and presentations.
Both set s of papers will be published in the proceedings allowing us to accomplish our twin goals of developing and using technology and ensuring that it is applicable for cultural heritage. We invite you to get to know CIPA and attend our symposium.
Consider submitting either a scientific paper for peer review or a practical project paper.
